10 Diseases Spread by Mosquitoes

According to statistics, mosquitoes is one of the main reasons behind sufferings in human beings as they are the reason for a number of diseases. Here are 10 diseases spread by mosquitoes:

  • Zika

In most of the cases, the symptoms coming from this virus are quite mild and thus do not come in notice easily. Some of these signs are red eyes, just fever, joint pain and rash. Pregnant women and their babies are in real danger. This virus is known to have a connection with microcephaly, a type of birth defect, which is known to lead to brain damage and small heads. Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Brazil and South and Central America are the main countries where this disease gets spread.

  • Dengue

A rarity in the USA, Dengue shows its presence in other popular tourist places such as the Latin America, Puerto Rico, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. Some of the symptoms of this virus are bleeding gums, rash, headache, fever and easy bruising. In some cases, one can suffer from the deadly hemorrhagic fever. Till now, there is no vaccine of dengue.

  • West Nile

If a mosquito carrying this virus, bites you, there might not be any symptom. However, in some cases, there can be symptoms like a rash, fever, diarrhea, joints pain and vomiting. In rare cases, there can be further complications such brain infections like meningitis or encephalitis. Till date, no vaccine has been found for this disease.

  • Malaria

Malaria is one of the most common mosquito-borne disease, and around half of the population in the world, lives at the risk of getting infected by this disease. Most of the cases occur in Africa. Vomiting, chills, fever, and headache are the symptoms of this disease. In case, you are travelling to a country where this problem is prevalent, take anti-malaria medicine and sleep under a net.

  • Yellow Fever

The problem of jaundice is one of the symptoms of this problem, which turns the patient’s skin and eyes, yellow. If the infection is less, there can be symptoms like backache, vomiting, chills and headache. If you are travelling to places like Latin America and Africa where this disease is common, do not forget to take vaccine for it.

  • Chikungunya

The name of this disease comes from an African language. It points out to the curved position of the people that happens due to serious pain in the joints of the body. Headache, fatigue, rashes and nausea are some of the other symptoms. This problem can be seen in Asia, India, America and Europe. In some patients, the symptoms can last for months as there is no proper cure. Recovery in this problem is slightly slow.

  • La Crosse Encephalitis

A mosquito that carries this virus, bites during day time, mainly in the spring season, through early fall. This mosquito is found in the wooded areas of mid-Atlantic, upper Midwest, and the Southeast. Its symptoms such has fever, nausea, headache and fever might be taken lightly many times by the patient and the family.

  • Rift Valley Fever

Mosquitoes suffering from this infection can pass on this disease to humans as well as animals. The name of the disease comes from a part in Kenya, the place it was discovered by doctors. This problem is quite common in Africa, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. This fever can be quite damaging for the eyes. Other symptoms include weakness and dizziness.

  • Jamestown Canyon Virus

For the first time, this problem was noticed in the 1980s by the doctors and has been named after a region close to Boulder, CO. People who catch this virus, may experience symptoms like fever, flu and headache. Other severe issues can be inflammation of spinal cord or the brain. Mosquitoes spreading this virus are mainly found in North America and the US.

  • Snowshoe Hare Virus

This disease gets this name after an animals as it was first identified in the blood of a snowshoe hare. This problem now is often seen in the US but first time, it was diagnosed in a human being in Canada in the 1970s. Along with inflammation of the brain, it causes a number of other symptoms such as rashes, dizziness, headache and vomiting.
